No decorrer das duas últimas décadas o Conselho Mundial de Igrejas (CMI), desenvolveu uma ampla gama de declarações e ferramentas relacionadas com HIV/AIDS. Algumas já não se usam mais, no entanto outras sobrevivem ao tempo e estão em grande demanda. A Iniciativa Ecumênica HIV/AIDS na África (EHAIA), a qual começou em 2002 com o Progama Saúde e Cura do CMI, em cooperação com a Confrência das Igrejas de Toda a África (CITA), tem acrescentado publicações que certamente são relevantes não só para a situação africana. Todo este material foi reunido aqui. Todos, menos um estão diaponíveis em inglês, muitos em francês e alguns em espanhol e português.
O material inclui estudos básicos e declarações de políticas de ação dos líderes das igrejas, resultado de consultas, a serem usados para reflexão nas igrejas e na sociedade em geral. Num período de três anos, a resposta das igrejas ao HIV foi mapeada nos países em estudo; este trabalho ainda continua nos países que não estão incluídos aqui; mas, as rápidas mudanças neste campo de trabalho, requerem atualizações de alguns relatórios mais antigos, em breve. Material de treinamento e ensino prático assim como o material lituúrgico, são oferecidos na condição em que se encontram no presente; a produção de mais ferramentas para o dia-a-dia da vida da igreja, receberá ênfase da EHAIA nos meses e anos próximos.

The principles outlined here are not confined to church leaders and may have relevance to anyone in involved in this demanding field who may feel that ‘something is lacking’.
