The Global Christian Forum began in 1998 as a series of conversations among diverse faith traditions representing a wider range of churches than are members of the World Council of Churches. It serves as an opportunity for the exploration of common ground, sharing of personal testimony and discussion of future possibilities for fellowship.

The November 2007 forum near Nairobi, Kenya gathers some 250 Christians from Roman Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, Protestant, Revival, Evangelical, Pentecostal and African Independent church backgrounds. While the WCC supports this platform for Christian dialogue and is sending a delegation to Nairobi, the forum itself is autonomous in nature.
