Faith and Order Standing Commission
Crans-Montana, SwitzerlandA full meeting of the standing commission of the Faith and Order (F&O) Standing Commission will review detailed plans for F&O's study programmes and other activities, consider when to hold a meeting of its plenary commission, and whether to hold a world conference on Faith and Order within the next working period. The last such world conference was held in Santiago de Compostela, Spain, in 1993.
The Faith and Order Commission is the primary reference point designated by WCC member chuches, the Roman Catholic and some Pentecostal churches for WCC work to bring about visible unity and overcome divisions between the churches. The fact that its members are nominated by their churches gives the Commission its official character. The 120-member plenary commission meets at least once between WCC assemblies, while the 30-person standing commission meets at least each 18 months.
