A unique and ambitious web-based theological resource to redress a global imbalance of access to research materials in theology and related disciplines is to be launched in Geneva on 23 September by the World Council of Churches and Globethics.net.

Media representatives are invited to the launch of the Global Digital Library on Theology and Ecumenism (GlobeTheoLib) on:

Friday 23 September
11:00 – 12:00
at the Ecumenical Centre,
150, route de Ferney, Geneva

followed by an aperitif

In the Philip Potter Library
(free parking available)

GlobeTheoLib contains a vast collection of key documents and academic resources that can be accessed by registered participants from anywhere in the world via internet.

It provides a new model for sharing theological knowledge and resources across national, cultural and denominational barriers in order to make the theological voices and resources of the global South more visible and accessible.

Speakers at the launch include:

  • Rev. Dr Dietrich Werner, WCC programme on Ecumenical Theological Education
  • Prof. Dr Christoph Stückelberger, executive director and founder, Globethics.net
  • Rev. Dr André Karamaga, general secretary, All Africa Conference of Churches

GlobeTheoLib is a joint project of the World Council of Churches and Globethics.net, with other international partners.

It uses the electronic platform of Globethics.net, which already holds 650'000 full-text documents in its Global Digital Library on Ethics.

GlobeTheoLib is supported by a consortium that includes associations of theological libraries and seminaries, as well as mission organizations, foundations, Regional Ecumenical Organizations, and Christian World Communions. The project has been co-initiated and planned by the WCC programme on Ecumenical Theological Education (ETE).
