World Water Day 2010

No clean water without sanitation

The lack of access to clean water and basic sanitation is the main reason that thousands of children die every day of preventable water-related diseases such as diarrhoea, typhoid, cholera and dysentery.

Billions of us need the toilet

2.5 billion people do not have access to basic sanitation; that means they don't have anywhere safe, private and hygienic to go to the toilet.

The world's longest toilet queue

Staff of the church organizations based at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva, Switzerland, joined with people in thousands of other places around the world to create the world's longest toilet queue and draw attention to the sanitation crisis.

Art of awareness-raising
