Au cours des deux dernières décennies, le Conseil oecuménique des Eglises (COE) a élaboré toute une série de déclarations et d'outils relatifs au VIH/sida. Certains d'entre eux ne sont plus utilisés. D'autres sont encore remarquablement d'actualité et très demandés. L'Initiative oecuménique de lutte contre le VIH/sida en Afrique (EHAIA), qui a débuté en 2002 dans le cadre du programme Santé et guérison du COE, en collaboration avec la Conférence des Eglises de toute l'Afrique, y a depuis lors ajouté des publications qui sont certainement également valables en dehors du cadre africain. Tout cela a été réuni ici. La plupart de ces textes sont disponibles en anglais, beaucoup d'autres en français, certains en espagnol ou en portugais, et quelques-uns dans des langues africaines comme le lingala, le malgache et le swahili.
Ce matériel comprend des études fondamentales et des prises de position de colloques de dirigeants d'Eglises destinées à la réflexion dans les Eglises et la société. Un cadre concernant un engagement à faire participer davantage les personnes vivant avec le VIH à la vie de l'Eglise y a été ajouté. On y trouvera également une formation et un enseignement pratique, ainsi que du matériel d'accompagnement pastoral et liturgique.
