"Churches for Water in Africa"

Selon certaines estimations, plus de 300 millions d'habitants de l'Afrique sub-saharienne n'ont pas suffisamment accès à l'eau potable. Qu'est-ce que les Eglises peuvent faire pour contribuer à assurer à toute la population du continent de l'eau potable en suffisance, ce qui constitue un droit humain essentiel?
A partir de l'examen de l'approvisionnement en eau et de l'accès à celle-ci en Afrique, ainsi que des effets du changement climatique et des facteurs économique et politiques, la Conférence se penchera sur des initiatives concrètes dans le domaine de l'eau, dans le contexte du développement rural intégré, de la santé et de la gestion de l'eau dans les régions touchées par l'évolution du climat.
Abordant le problème de l'eau sous l'angle des droits de la personne, la Conférence évoquera divers problèmes: privatisation, pollution et transformation de l'eau en produit commercial, conflits liés à l'eau et à d'autres ressources naturelles. Les participants se livreront à une réflexion biblique et théologique sur le thème de l'eau et visiteront sur le terrain des projets dans un bidonville de Kampala et dans deux diocèses ruraux.
Cette conférence rassemblait près de 70 participants, parmi lesquels des dirigeants d'Eglises, des théologiens, des experts en hydraulique et des coordinateurs de projets. Ils étaient venus de 19 pays d'Afrique, ainsi que d'Europe et d'Amérique latine, pour discuter du rôle des Eglises face à la crise de l'eau en Afrique. La conférence était organisée par le Réseau œcuménique de l'eau (ROE), en collaboration avec le Conseil chrétien mixte d'Ouganda, la Conférence des Eglises de toute l'Afrique (CETA) et ACORD (Association de coopération et de recherche pour le développement), basée en Ouganda.
