The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is hosting a consultation on human rights obligations related to access to water and sanitation on 11 May 2007 in Geneva. Participants in the consultation will include representatives of States, inter-governmental organizations, civil society and business. The Ecumenical Water Network will also participate.

The consultation is part of a study process at the OHCHR on human rights obligations and their meaning with regard to water and sanitation. The final study report will be presented to the Human Rights Council in September 2007.

As announced before, the OHCHR had already requested stakeholders to provide submissions to the study in April. The EWN submitted a number of relevant documents and statements reflecting our members' vision and experience with water and sanitation. Also, the EWN and more than 170 other organizations signed up to a submission made by the Blue Planet Project, a Canadian NGO.
