This project supports the educational ministry of churches and the ecumenical movement by identifying their training/education needs, and providing individual and group non-theological scholarships at their request.

The WCC scholarships programme is an ecumenical resource sharing tool that seeks to accompany the member churches of WCC and related church organizations in the development of their human resources.

As part of the WCC Programme "Justice, Diakonia and Responsibility for Creation", its primary purpose is to help member churches develop their human resources for diakonia and development-related work, generally understood as social ministries serving the wider community beyond the local or national Christian communities/congregations.

At present, the WCC scholarships programme is only able to accompany the member churches and related church organizations by contributing financial resources as they seek to train women and men, lay and ordained individuals at a postgraduate degree level.

Scholarships are also available for group training initiatives for developing “multipliers” or “trainers” in a particular field to enable them to transmit the acquired knowledge and skills to others.
