In God's Hands: The Ecumenical Prayer Cycle

The Ecumenical Prayer Cycle enables us to journey in prayer through every region of the world and through every week of the year affirming our solidarity with Christians all over the world, brothers and sisters living in diverse situations, experiencing diverse problems and sharing diverse gifts.

At the very heart of the ecumenical movement is the reality of prayer. Jesus prayed that we may all be one, united in God in the mystery of the Trinity. That is the basis and the goal of our search for unity.

The Ecumenical Prayer Cycle enables us to journey in prayer through every region of the world and through every week of the year affirming our solidarity with Christians all over the world, brothers and sisters living in diverse situations, experiencing diverse problems and sharing diverse gifts. Lord, hear our prayer ...

These pages are based on the Ecumenical Prayer Cycle "In God's Hands - Common Prayer for the World" (ISBN 978-2825414880). The book and the website offer valuable aids for intercessory prayers, prayer on behalf of and in solidarity with others.

This week and next week we pray for:

India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka
Give thanks for: A rich history and culture that spans several millennia; Ethnic and religious diversity throughout this region; The devotion and faith of those who work with the poor, refugees, orphans, the dying, and the hungry; The apostle St Thomas who founded a church in India; Those who cross boundaries of clan and religion in order to make peace; Educational institutions and hospitals founded by Christian missionaries, which continue to serve all people irrespective of their religion, caste or creed.
Indian Ocean Islands: Comoros, Madagascar, Maldives, Mauritius, Seychelles
Give thanks for: Religious freedom in Madagascar and the increase of church attendance due to mission outreach. The in-depth growth of Christian spirituality and the spread of the charismatic renewal movement in all denominations. Those who work tirelessly to bring healing to those who are hurting and suffering due to illness, unemployment and poverty. Churches which work for economic justice and engage in diakonia, especially among the poor in society. Effective work for development among the poor in Christian humility and faithfulness. Every Christian who shares the good news of God’s reign as well as their own lives with those who have not yet or no longer recognize Christ as their Lord and Saviour. The shepherds, evangelists, lay leaders in the churches in Madagascar who work tirelessly to share the love of Christ with the whole nation through word and deed. The empowering presence of the Lord who accompanies mission outreach throughout the Indian Ocean area. Christians who accompany their repentance with service and support of the mission of the church. The strengthening of ecumenical cooperation between the historical churches, including the Roman Catholic Church. Peaceful coexistence and cultural and economic cooperation between the islands of the Indian Ocean. Those in society who speak on behalf of the silenced or unheard until the blind in high places can see and until all the excluded find a home in the life of the nation. The hope for a future where every citizen would live in the dignity of God’s children.
