Dear Setri,

May the peace of the Lord be upon you!

As the WCRC Executive Committee is celebrating your 14 years of ministry, in service to the Reformed churches around the world, I send you the greetings of the World Council of Churches and thank God for your ministry with the World Communion of Reformed Churches.

You have nurtured the Reformed family of churches carrying the vision of unity as God’s gift and calling, with a zeal for God’s justice, always blessed with great strength for His tireless service.

Your ministry has led a world alliance into a global communion of churches. Your ministry has nurtured a call for economic justice into a confession of faith for God’s justice. You have diplomatically nurtured and guided the reconciliation of two confessional bodies, making unity in Christ more visible to a broken world.

You have been, and will continue to be, a great gift to the Reformed, Presbyterian, Congregational and United churches represented through the World Communion of Reformed Churches.

Tonight it is also right to give God thanks and praise for you ministry to the wider ecumenical movement, in support of the World Council of Churches, in leadership among Christian world communions and as an ambassador for peace with leaders of other faiths. I am particularly thankful for our work together in the ecumenical centre and for the wisdom you have shared for strengthening the one ecumenical movement.

When I received the call to serve as General Secretary of the World Council of Churches, you were among the older brothers to welcome me in Geneva and to the task of leadership in the ecumenical movement.

May God bless you and Akpeni this evening with a sense of peace as you imagine the golden future ahead having recently celebrated 60 years of life.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit
WCC general Secretary
