Dear Mr David Beasley,
It is our privilege to congratulate you on your appointment to the key role of the Executive Director of the World Food Programme. We wish you every success in this undertaking, and we offer our prayers to God, to bless you to be a dynamic and transformative leader of this vital institution in service of humanity.
We sincerely appreciate the work performed by the WFP in serving communities worldwide, especially those most in need of emergency assistance, relief, and rehabilitation, for food and sustenance, in situations of crisis and conflicts.
We support WFP's reaching out to Faith communities to strengthen the strategic and operational effectiveness of the work of WFP. We are keen to make this a reality.
We also appreciate the WFP's role in bringing faith communities, related organizations and key players in emergency assistance, to overcome hunger and promote health and wellbeing.
Additionally, very much appreciate working as part of the SDG2 Advocacy hub that is being facilitated by WFP.
As a sign of our continued commitment to the growing partnership with the WFP, we have been promoting together, the following:
1. The Ten Commandments for Food.
2. Planning for a gathering of religious leaders on the 28th and 29th of June, to mobilize faith communities for overcoming hunger and sustaining justice and peace in the Horn of Africa.
3. Along with other Faith partners, we are promoting May 21, 2017, as a 'Global Day of Prayer to end famine.' This appeal had been endorsed and promoted by over 75 organizations and churches, representing more than one billion people world-wide.
We appreciate the support and cooperation we are receiving on all these initiatives. We look forward to the strengthening of our collaborative work, with WFP, working across faith communities, civil society, and with governments, to end hunger, achieve food security, improve nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture.
