It is with great sadness that we have received the news of the passing away of the Rev. Dr. Prakai Nontawasee , an outstanding Asian ecumenical leader.

We thank God for Rev. Dr Prakai Nontawasee’s life and witness during the past several decades.

Dr Nontawasee served the church and the ecumenical movement in various capacities for more than four decades. As an ordained minister of the Church of Christ in Thailand ( CCT), Dr Nontawasee was Vice Moderator of the CCT. She represented the CCT in the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches and also served as a member of its Faith and Order Plenary Commission.

Nontawasee was a active in the Asian ecumenical movement and she was member of the Presidium of the Christian Conference of Asia from 1990-1995.

Nontawasee, who committed most of her life for theological education, was a member of the faculty of the Mc Givellery Faculty in Chiangmai and was instrumental in promoting the concerns of women in theological education.

Prakai Nontawasee’s contributions and expertise in the field of Christian Buddhist dialogue have been widely acknowledged.

As we mourn her passing away, the WCC recognises and remembers her invaluable contributions to the ecumenical movement. She will be remembered as one of the great ecumenical women leaders from Asia.

I take this opportunity to convey our sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved family and the Church of Christ in Thailand.

May her soul rest in peace and memory be eternal.
