6. Permanent Committee on Consensus and Collaboration


 

a) Immediately after an Assembly, the Central Committee shall appoint members of the Permanent Committee on Consensus and Collaboration (the "Permanent Committee"), consisting of fourteen members, of whom half will be Orthodox.

 

 

b) The Orthodox members of the Central Committee shall appoint the seven Orthodox members, and the other members of the Central Committee shall appoint the remaining seven.

 

 

c) Of the overall membership at least half shall be members of the WCC Executive Committee. Proxies may substitute for absent members, and observers from non-member churches, or on occasion from churches in association with the WCC, can be invited by the Permanent Committee.

 

 

d) Two co-moderators shall be appointed from the membership of the Permanent Committee, one appointed by the Orthodox members of the Central Committee, and one by the other members of the Central Committee.

 

 

e) The term of the members of the outgoing Permanent Committee shall conclude upon election of replacement members following an Assembly. The Permanent Committee shall be considered a committee of the Assembly and shall advise the Business Committee of the Assembly.

 

 

f) The Permanent Committee will have responsibility for:

 

 

1. continuing the authority, mandate, concerns and dynamic of the Special Commission (mandated by the Eighth Assembly, Harare, Zimbabwe, 1998);

 

 

2. giving advice and making recommendations to governing bodies of the WCC between Assemblies in order to contribute to the formation of consensus on matters proposed for the agenda of the WCC;

 

 

3. facilitating improved participation of the Orthodox in the entire life and work of the Council;

 

 

4. offering counsel and providing opportunity for united action in matters of common interest;

 

 

5. giving attention to matters of ecclesiology.

 

 

g) The Permanent Committee will report to the Central Committee and to the Executive Committee.

 

 

If the proposed new rule is accepted, the present Rule III.6 (Other committees of the Assembly) will become III.7.
