Intern for Youth Work and Ecumenism in the 21st Century

The World Council of Churches sent a group of staff and interns to participate in the 32nd protestant Kirchentag in Bremen, Germany, 20 to 24 May 2009.
The interns detailed some of their experiences of working on the WCC stall, bible studies, workshops and sleeping in a classroom with 16 people.

“Our World, Our Climate, Our Food” is a project of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO). The project is designed to disseminate information and raise awareness on climate change, environment and food security issues.
One facet of the project is a competition in which young people are encouraged to participate using photos, videos and sharing local knowledge.

Pristine beaches, breathtaking landscapes, portraits of local people and family photographs in unusual settings certainly constitute common images of holidays.
The Ecumenical Coalition on Tourism (ECOT) are looking for ‘unusual’ photographs on tourism that may question current practices to feature in their soon to be redesigned website.

The forthcoming Centenary of the World Missionary Conference held in Edinburgh 1910 is proving to be a suggestive moment for many people who are seeking direction for Christian mission in the 21st century.
Several different constituencies within world Christianity have begun to plan significant events in 2010.
The youth involvement has already begun through a facebook group and will continue with young people attending the central conference in Edinburgh and contributing to an online consultation on mission.

Br. Jean Patrick and Br. Andre from the Taize Community, France, recently visited the Diocese of Jabalpur, Church of North India (CNI), to meet with around 75 young people.
The meeting was held at Christ Church Cathedral, Jabalpur, with praise and worship being led by the Christ Church Cathedral Youth.

The Ulduz Youth Public Union are hosting a seminar entitled, 'Youth interreligious dialogue as a bridge to modern Europe'.
This seminar will be held from 25 to 31 July 2009 at the International Youth House in Baku, Azerbaijan.

The Council of Latin American Churches (CLAI) Youth Pastoral Committee in Argentina has set up a common agenda for the 10 CLAI member churches for 2009. The first activity is addressing the theme of addiction in five different Argentinian cities. The aim is to strengthen youth leader’s skills in facing this problem in their communities from a theological perspective.
From 15-17 August there will be an ecumenical youth seminar, on the theme “Overcoming Violence”. The agenda includes specific discussions on youth violence, domestic violence and trafficking on women, youth and children.

The agreement between CLAI and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) to promote awareness in the area of sexual health and HIV prevention in Latin America started with a workshop in Paraguay.
35 youth leaders from seven denominations attended this gathering on a biblical approach to sexuality, which is the first step to build up resources to work at community and church level on topics related to sexuality and youth.
