The February 2008 meeting of the WCC central committee in Geneva was an occasion for celebrating the 60th anniversary of the council. The prayer life of the meeting reflected the themes and spirit of the nine past WCC assemblies to date:

Homily by the Ecumenical Patriarch H.A.H. Bartholomew: "The bonds of friendship between divided churches and the bridges to overcome our divisions are indispensable, more now than ever," the Ecumenical Patriarch said in the homily he preached at the anniversary celebration on 17 February 2008.
Bible study: "By the Wind of the Spirit": Bible study on I Corinthians 12:4, 8-13, reflecting on the theme of the WCC 7th assembly in Canberry 1991: "Come Holy Spirit – Renew the whole Creation". Presented by WCC president Rev. Dr Ofelia Ortega on 19 February 2008 before the central committee.
