The WCC's central vision is one of churches working together for visible unity and for the transformation of the world and society. Good communication is needed to help convert this vision into a reality. The WCC is committed to making the work of the Council as well as to the life and work of its member churches visible, to bringing the ethical and moral alternative voice of the churches and the ecumenical movement to the world.
This programme directs and coordinates the public voice of the WCC, publishes books and other media tools, and offers a dynamic and user-friendly website and photo service. In conjunction with staff working in other areas of WCC engagement, it prepares speaking notes on world affairs for the WCC general secretary, stories, statements, briefings.
It organizes press conferences and interviews; it tailors its messages to particular constituencies, and targets the appropriate media outlets for getting the message out, whether specialized or general mass media, church-related or secular media.
The programme works to ensure that identifying the communication goals, target audiences and strategies is part of the planning of all the WCC's programmatic projects and activities.
And in serving a council of churches with diverse confessional and linguistic constituencies, the programme seeks to deepen the fellowship among them, by informing and empowering them to engage with one another.
