The WCC-UNICEF partnership launch, previously planned for 3 June, has been postponed due to unforeseen circumstances. The event is now scheduled for 10.00 am on Friday 18 September at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva.

The new partnership seeks to build the capacity of World Council member churches, church-related development agencies and ecumenical partners to monitor and promote children’s rights within their communities and congregations. The partnership will also underscore two pressing issues that negatively impact children: climate change and violence.

Following the launch of the partnership, a high-level seminar, “Churches and children's rights - a strong voice for children’s rights in sustainable development", will take place on 20 November (anniversary of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child) at the Ecumenical Centre. It will take stock of the situation of children in pilot countries of the partnership and convene leading representatives of WCC member churches as well as key resource persons from UNICEF around joint efforts.
