Results of the fifth and largest study on the portrayal and representation of women in the news media will be released on 23 November 2015 at 12:00 am (midnight) EST (5:00 am UCT/GMT). On release, the report and accompanying material will be available at www.whomakesthenews.org

The Global Media Monitoring Project (GMMP) is the largest research and advocacy initiative in the world on gender equality in news and journalism.

The 2015 report includes data from 114 countries and provides analysis and case studies at global, regional and national levels, including trends detected since the first GMMP was conducted in 1995.  In 1995, data was collected from 71 countries. Participation has grown for each subsequent GMMPs held in 2000, 2005 and 2010 and 2015.

In addition to tracking trends in traditional news media, GMMP 2015 for the first time will include comprehensive data on gender portrayal and representation in digital media forms.

The GMMP is coordinated by the World Association for Christian Communication (WACC), a global network that promotes communication rights for social justice and sustainable development. The worldwide media monitoring is implemented collaboratively with women’s rights organizations, grassroots groups, media associations, faith-based / interfaith organizations, university students and researchers across the world. WCC News is supporting WACC in sharing the report and its key results with worldwide media.
