”We are deeply proud that we are able to support your ministry of service,” says World Council of Churches’ general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit in a message delivered to the Fellowship of the Least Coin (FLC), in celebrating their 60th anniversary.

The message will be delivered by Dr Fulata Lusungu Moyo, WCC programme executive for a Just Community of Women and Men, in Louisville, Kentucky where the International Committee of the Fellowship of the Least Coin will jointly celebrate this landmark with the Church Women United’s 75th anniversary.

In delivering the message, Moyo stresses the great value of mutual support and collaboration between the WCC and the FLC. “2016 is full of landmarks when it comes to women’s contributions to the ecumenical movement. It is 55 years since the women started mobilising prayer for home mission in 1961, which is now known as the World Day of Prayer. It is 75 years since the Church Women United was born, 60 years since the FLC was born as a movement of prayer and action for peace by the inspiring midwifery of Shanti Solomon, an Indian woman of vision. It is 35 years since the first ecumenical perspective on the ordination of women, 25 years since the Evangelical Lutheran Churches of India started to ordain women. It’s certainly a year of God’s favour!”

The WCC General Secretary acknowledged the importance of WCC’s collaboration with FLC. ”Your annual support of the Just Community of Women and Men (JCWM) makes so much difference, in particular your support for the Thursdays in Black campaign towards a world without rape and violence,” Tveit’s message said.

Together, ”we can celebrate the gifts, visit the wounds and commit responsibly to transformation toward a world-wide culture of gender justice and peace with no sexual and gender-based violence.”

“Let us pray, my sisters, that we may continue to walk together so that love and faithfulness will meet, and justice and peace will embrace. For this is the gospel we seek to embody in our search for unity,” the message from Tveit concluded.
