Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit, general secretary of the World Council of Churches (WCC) is currently in the Republic of Korea, visiting the country’s WCC member churches and ecumenical partners. During his visit, 5 to 10 April, Tveit has been conveying “great appreciation” to the Korean churches for their work and contributions to the ecumenical movement.

Tveit said that the WCC Executive Committee, which recently met in Geneva, expressed profound gratitude to the Korean churches, and especially to the Korean Host Committee, for welcoming and providing support for the WCC 10th Assembly in Busan last year. Tveit relayed the Executive Committee’s thanks in Seoul on 7 April during his meeting with members of the former Korean Host Committee for the 10th Assembly.

The 2013 WCC assembly in Busan was a significant moment in the ecumenical movement. Those who attended the assembly will always cherish the hospitality of the Korean churches in their hearts, Tveit said.
