General secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit of the World Council of Churches (WCC) has offered congratulations to Bishop Hovakim Manukyan on being installed as the new primate of the diocese of the Armenian Church of the United Kingdom and Ireland.

“It gives me great joy to hear that you have been entrusted with an important ecclesial and pastoral responsibility by your church. Indeed, your election as Bishop to the Armenian Diocese of the United Kingdom and Ireland is a new and important station in your long and faithful pilgrimage at the service of your church and your people,” said Tveit in a letter to Bishop Manukyan issued on 22 July.

Bishop Manukyan was the founding primate of the diocese of Artik in Northern Armenia and head of the Ecumenical Relations Department of the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin.

Tveit commented, “Be assured that our prayers will accompany you and that we will be glad to continue with you on the ecumenical journey which we have already been walking together over many years.”

“I am grateful for your commitment to the ecumenical movement and your manifold contributions to the ecumenical work,” Tveit added.

Bishop Manukyan was installed in this new position in a ceremony on 12 July at the St. Yeghiche Church in the UK.

The Armenian Apostolic Church – Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin is a WCC member church.
