As the Churches’ Week of Action on Food is to commence on 15 October, the World Council of Churches Ecumenical Advocacy Alliance (WCC-EAA) now makes available material for seven prayer services, each intended to bring opportunities for prayer, reflection and action on food-justice around the world.

“The Churches’ Week of Action on Food is a global campaign inviting the ecumenical movement and organisations, community-based organisations and faith-based organisations to act collectively for food-justice,” explains Manoj Kurian, coordinator of the WCC-EAA and the Food for Life Campaign.

“Spirituality is at the heart of a person’s expression of Christian faith,” reflects Rev. Christopher Rajkumar, executive secretary of the National Council of Churches in India and chair of the Food for Life Campaign strategy group, “and so worship becomes a pivotal peak of expression. Prayers, liturgies, and songs are powerful expressions for our faith and spiritual journeys.”

”The prayer resources we are sharing today have been prepared in collaboration with churches in India, and interpret Psalm 23 from ecological, food-justice and migration perspectives,” adds Kurian. “Our hope is that they will be employed as strong advocacy tools for food-justice campaigns around the globe.”

Each year, the WCC-EAA’s Food for Life Campaign makes available a range of resources for Christians and others around the world to use in acting together for food justice and food sovereignty, and to raise awareness about farming approaches that help individuals and communities develop resiliency and combat poverty.

The WCC-EAA is also one of the organizers launching of a 10th anniversary issue of the Right to Food and Nutrition Watch in Geneva on 19 October, an event for which registration is open to the public until 16 October.
