The World Council of Churches (WCC), Lutheran World Federation, World Alliance of Reformed Churches, and Conference of European Churches are jointly sponsoring a public seminar:

5th Ministerial Conference of the

World Trade Organization in Cancun, Mexico:

Why should Christians and Churches be concerned?

10 September, 14:00-17:30, at the Ecumenical Centre, Geneva.

The programme includes an introduction to the key issues being addressed in the 5th WTO conference, and major presentations by:

Rev. Dr Seong-Won Park (World Alliance of Reformed Churches),

Prof. Edward Dommen (University of Sunderland), and

Ms Hellen Wangusa (African Women's Economic Policy Network).

The half-day seminar aims at building greater awareness on the trade and development issues that will be tackled at the WTO conference in Cancun, as well as at affirming the ecumenical community's spiritual, moral and ethical perspective on the global trading system. It is expected to produce an open letter or statement addressed to the WTO and the trade ministers gathered in Cancun, highlighting the ecumenical community's concerns.

The media and the general public are cordially invited to attend.
