During a visit to the Ecumenical Centre and the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Geneva, the officers of the Presbyterian Church of Korea (PCK) announced that Pentecost Sunday 2013, which it celebrates on 19 May, will be a special day of prayer for the WCC Busan Assembly throughout the 8,300 congregations of the denomination.

The moderator of the PCK, Rev. Dr Son Dal Ik, led this delegation of the PCK officers on a visit to churches and partners in Europe. The group attended inaugural celebration to commemorate the merger of the Reformed Church of France and the Evangelical Lutheran Church of France, which became the United Protestant Church of France last year. The new church is holding its first synod from 8 to 12 May in Lyon, France.

Leaders of the PCK reiterated their support for the Busan Assembly during their discussions with the WCC deputy general secretary Georges Lemopoulos. They reported that the WCC member churches in Republic of Korea, together with the Korean Host Committee, are busy preparing to welcome the WCC assembly.

The assembly will take place in Busan from 30 October to 8 November, under the theme “God of life, lead us to justice and peace”.

The delegation held a short prayer service in the Ecumenical Centre chapel in which they were joined by members of the WCC staff. Rev. Kim Dong Yup, vice-moderator of the PCK, preached on Psalm 23, reflecting on the ever-present strength of God.
