The March 2014 issue of The Ecumenical Review features reflections on the global context of ecumenical theology from leading theological scholars and students who participated in classes, research and ecumenical events in Busan and Seoul, Republic of Korea, in the fall of 2013.

The issue is entitled “All Things New: Faith, Formation and the Future”. Contributors gathered last October and November for the Global Ecumenical Theological Institute (GETI) and its sister programme the Korean Ecumenical Theological Institute (KETI), meeting in tandem with the 10th Assembly of the World Council of Churches (WCC) in Busan. The guest editors of this issue of The Ecumenical Review, Dietrich Werner and Mélisande Schifter, were lead staff of GETI in Geneva, Seoul and Busan.

Contributions include expositions on contemporary challenges in Christian unity, mission, the common calling of women and men, peacemaking and justice by such authors as Atola Longkumer of India, André Karamaga of the All Africa Conference of Churches, Wonsuk Ma of Oxford, Michael Kinnamon of the USA, Hermen Shastri of Malaysia and Seong-Won Park of the Republic of Korea.

Clifton Kirkpatrick, former president of the World Alliance of Reformed Churches, professor at Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary and the dean of GETI, writes in his preface: “The creative mixture of academic study of ecumenism, participation in the WCC assembly, encounter with Asian and Korean Christianity and the rich intercultural dialogue among our students and faculty from different cultures, genders, nationalities and confessions made GETI a tremendous formation event for the next generation of leaders in the ecumenical movement.”

He adds: “The reflections found in this issue of The Ecumenical Review represent important dimensions of the theological content of the emerging ecumenical movement. They are also supported by an emerging ecumenical community begun by those who were privileged to share in this event in Seoul and Busan.”

Ecumenical Review 66.1 also features an interview with the Rev. Dr Walter Altmann of Brazil, who served as moderator of the WCC Central Committee from February 2006 to November 2013.

The Ecumenical Review, a quarterly journal of the WCC, is published in partnership with Wiley Blackwell, Oxford.
