Writing to the general secretary of the Church of South India (CSI), World Council of Churches head Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia has mourned the passing away of former CSI general secretary Dr Mrs Renuka Mukerji Somasekhar.
In a 1 May letter to Dr Mrs P. Sathiamurthy, Kobia mentions Somasekhar's "outstanding leadership to church and society in India". Among her many "illustrious contributions", Somasekhar was at one time or another president of the National Council of Churches in India, chairperson of India's Student Christian Movement, and "at the helm" of "a pioneering institution of higher education in India, the Women's Christian College, Madras.
