The six presidents of the organization Churches Together in England are encouraging all churches to pray together through an initiative called “Thy Kingdom Come.” The effort focuses on praying for Christ’s transforming love to bring hope and joy to all.

The presidents are encouraging people of all faith traditions to join in prayer during the days leading up to Pentecost in 2017, from 25 May - 4 June.

A statement issued by the six presidents explained that, earlier this year, many of the churches in England took up the invitation of the archbishops of Canterbury and York to set aside the days leading up to Pentecost Sunday to pray for the renewing and empowering presence of the Holy Spirit. “As presidents of Churches Together in England, we are delighted to join together to extend this invitation to all the churches in England to participate in this movement of prayer in 2017.”

The presidents are: Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby; Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster Vincent Nichols; Rev. Dr Hugh Osgood, moderator of the Free Churches; Rev. Canon Billy Kennedy (nominated by New Churches, Religious Society of Friends and the Lutheran and German-speaking churches); Archbishop Gregorios of Thyateira and Great Britain (president for the Orthodox Churches); and Bishop Dr Eric Brown (Pentecostal President).
