"Ecumenical work is not nostalgia nor superficial use of metaphors. It is the hard work we do in mutual accountability to one another,” says World Council of Churches (WCC) general secretary Rev. Dr Olav Fykse Tveit in his introduction to the WCC Annual Review 2016, which is now available in print and digital form online.

Under the theme of ”Walking, working and praying together”, the WCC Annual Review 2016 tells the story of a fellowship of churches working for justice and peace through a wide range of activities across all continents, during 2016 and continuing into 2017.

”During the last year we focused in our pilgrimage on the situation in the Middle East,” Tveit notes, and reflects that, ”in the landscapes we know from our Bible, we see how conflicts are breaking the land of living into pieces. Human beings are divided, even torn into pieces.”

”Yet we are called to give account of our living hope given through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. We are called to show that another reality is possible, that even landscapes can change. Therefore, we continue our pilgrimage of justice and peace. And we pray that God will give us the strength and the wisdom to find our ways together.”
