World AIDS Day, observed on 1 December each year, is an important opportunity when governments, national AIDS programs, faith organizations, community organizations, and individuals around the world bring attention to the global AIDS epidemic and emphasize the critical need for a committed, meaningful and sustained response.

This year, a global interfaith campaign, Leading by Example: Religious Leaders and HIV Testing, will be launched at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva. The initiative, organized by the World Council of Churches, promotes HIV testing as an essential first step to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support and encourages religious leaders to have themselves tested to help overcome stigma and demonstrate that the test is for everyone. An exhibit and social media campaign will feature photos and quotes from religious leaders around the world promoting HIV testing.

A suggested World AIDS Day prayer service, which will be held at the Ecumenical Centre before the launch, is available for local congregations and groups to use and adapt.
