On 1 December 2017, the World Council of Churches invites to a full-day event at the Ecumencial Centre in Geneva, featuring a commemorative service, an interactive exhibition and a panel discussion on the lives and rights of children and adolescents living with HIV.

8.45-9.45: World AIDS Day commemoration service

10.00-11.30: Launch of art exhibit
Kisumu - Nairobi - Geneva - art from them to us
Panel discussion on the lives and rights of children and adolescents living with HIV

11.30-12.30: Light refreshment

13.30-15.30: Interactive workshop
The lives of children, adolescents and HIV explained through a painting session (activities for children and adolescents)

16.30-18.00: Vernissage: Painting for Education
The artwork will be sold to raise funds for next year’s school fees for HIV positive children and adolescents in Kenya

About the panel discussion

The purpose of the round table is:
  1. To support and promote advocacy and prioritization of children’s and adolescents’ rights including the right to treatment and education in the context of HIV at Global, National levels and among FBOs

  2. To share good practices emerging from various initiatives which directly involve children and adolescents living with HIV

  3. To promote implementation of a common framework for accelerated action to reach AIDS Free targets (to provide 1.6 million children and 1.2 million adolescents with antiretroviral treatment for HIV by 2018)

  4. To provide opportunity to strengthen old relationships and to forge new partnerships between faith and other sectors for promoting the rights of children and adolescents living with HIV

  5. To renew commitment for a shared vision on Ending AIDS in children by 2020.

Deborah Von Zingernagel, Coordinator, Policy and Programme Office of the Deputy Executive Director Programme Branch & Director, Start Free Stay Free AIDS Free UNAIDS: most recent data on children and adolescents; the 3Frees Framework; and UNAIDS My Health, My Right Campaign;

Greg Perry, Executive Director of the Medicines Patent Pool: the work of the MPP to promote access to medicines to all, including through cooperation and dialogue with manufactures;

Jamie Williams, Head Master, Secondary School, ECOLINT: the right to education as a tool to address the vulnerability to HIV; and as a contributor to the future of HIV-positive children and adolescents;

Gelise McCullough, Painting for an Education: setting the scene – the lives and rights of children and adolescents living with HIV;

Maya Lansky, Painting for an Education: working with HIV-positive children and the use of art to build confidence and resilience;
