Peace and Security in the DRC

This international conference on Peace and Security in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a follow-up to the commitment to accompany the country’s electoral process, made during the WCC 10th Assembly and two workshops organized in Kinshasa in 2014 by the Church of Christ in Congo in collaboration with the WCC and other WCC member churches in the DRC.

By examining the potentials, needs and challenges in the DRC in order to achieve and secure long-lasting peace and security, the conference will introduce WCC member churches and ecumenical partners to the situation in the DRC, and incite them to commit to work on peace and security there.

The desired outcomes include an ecumenical roadmap to accompany the work of member churches in the DRC confronting gender-based violence, youth issues, the management of natural resources, and other relevant areas.

It is hoped that a group of participants will commit to join an Ecumenical Election Observation Team during the 2016 presidential elections in the DRC.
