An interactive seminar “Fostering Solidarity for Human Rights, Peace and Justice” featuring several laureates of the Right Livelihood Award will take place on 31 October, 6-8 pm at the Ecumenical Centre in Geneva. The event is organized by the Right Livelihood Award Foundation, the Lutheran World Federation and World Council of Churches.

Seventy years after the founding of the United Nations, the promise of self-determination, and a viable, independent and contiguous Palestinian state remains an unrealized dream for the Palestinian people. The scourge of torture remains of great concern in the context of the war against terror. Minorities and indigenous people face everyday violence and denial of their basic human rights from Brazil to Hungary to Botswana. Yet, local and global struggles for human rights, peace and justice continue to thrive in the face of increasing repression against civil society across the world. This seminar seeks to integrate different perspectives on the struggle to advance human rights, peace and justice by showcasing the experiences of five Right Livelihood Award Laureates.

  • Raji Sourani – director, Palestinian Centre for Human Rights (via Skype)
  • Ida Kuklina – The Committee of Soldiers’ Mothers of Russia
