Equipping Churches for Building Peace and Human Security

What are the Christian theology and practices that undergird peace and reconciliation as fundamental Christian values? How can churches adequately articulate and affirm imperatives of gospel values of peace with justice and human security? These are some of the questions to be addressed at the WCC-sponsored Regional Workshop on “Equipping Churches for Building Peace and Human Security in Post-Conflict Situations”.

The workshop will be held from 24 to 28 November in Yangon, Myanmar. The event, organized in collaboration with the Christian Conference of Asia and the Myanmar Council of Churches (MCC), will be held in conjunction with the centenary celebrations of the MCC.

The workshop aims at enhancing capacities of churches and related organizations in strengthening ecumenical engagement in issues related to peace with justice and human security. The deliberations during the workshop will explore the role of churches as transformative agents for building peace with justice. It will also analyse historical perspectives on the situation in Myanmar, current contexts and challenges to post-conflict transformation on the way to establish a road map to sustained peace.

Participants from Myanmar’s neighbouring South and Southeast Asian countries will share best practices in conflict prevention and peace-building and will explore ways of strengthening programmatic synergies and collaboration with the WCC and its ecumenical partners, as a contribution to the WCC’s participation in the pilgrimage of justice and peace.
