Week of Prayer for Christian Unity

Churches throughout the world commit themselves to "Pray without ceasing", as the Week of prayer for Christian unity celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2008. In Geneva, the World Council of Churches together with the local churches and Christian communities marks the occasion with a celebration that highlights what prayer for church unity means both locally and in more troubled spots of the worlds.

On Sunday, 20 January, the Ecumenical Centre opens its doors from 2:30 pm to visitors of the exhibition "Priez sans cesse" in which the association of Genevan churches Rassemblement des Eglises Chrétiennes de Genève. will present the ecumenical activities in the city of Calvin.

At a 3 to 4:30 pm round table discussion church representatives from South Africa and Haiti will give witness of what it means to pray for unity in situations of violent conflict and hardship. Swiss radio journalist Michel Kocher will moderate the panel.

At 5 to 6 pm an ecumenical celebration, based on the liturgy proposed to communities around the globe by the WCC's Commission on Faith and Order and the Vatican's Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity, is held in the chapel of the Ecumenical Centre.
