Former WCC staff Geneviève Jacques honored in France

 

Ms Geneviève Jacques, former WCC Programmes Director, at the launch of her book 'Resisting the Intolerable' during the WCC Central Committee meeting in Geneva, February 2008.

Ms Geneviève Jacques, former World Council of Churches (WCC) Director of Programmes, has been awarded the Légion dHonneur by the French Republic for her active solidarity with the peoples of the South.

 

The WCC general secretary Rev. Dr Samuel Kobia congratulated and thanked Jacques for the "enthusiasm, dedication and [...] deep sense of ecumenical commitment" with which she has served the Council and other ecumenical organizations.

 

Jacques served the French NGO CIMADE in various capacities from 1968 to 1981 and was its general secretary from 1988 to 1996. In 1998 she joined the WCC until her retirement in 2006. The prestigious Légion dHonneur is considered the highest French decoration.
