The burden that the water crisis in Asia puts particularly on vulnerable and marginalized communities will be the focus of a regional consultation organized by the Ecumenical Water Network and the National Council of Churches in the Philippines.

Faith-based organizations have traditionally been major players in development work. In recent years, however, questions have been raised as to their added value and specific role. Are they just “Oxfam with Hymns”?

This world gathering of indigenous elders and theologians seeks to bring the richness of indigenous spiritualities into the ongoing theological reflection within the WCC on unity and transformative spirituality.

The sin and scandal of caste discrimination right within the church will be the main topics of discussion at this conference of church leaders convened by the National Council of Churches in India in partnership with the WCC.

This consultation is part of a WCC study project on Poverty, wealth and ecological debt. It continues aprocess which was started at the WCC 8th Assembly in Harare in 1998 and became known as Alternative Globalization Addressing People and Earth (AGAPE) since the 9th Assembly in Porto Alegre. Today, the issue of socio-economic justice is no less pressing.

Muslim and Christian leaders as well as scholars and interfaith practitioners will gather in Geneva, Switzerland for the international consultation "Transforming Communities: Christians and Muslims Building a Common Future".

The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2011 will be grounded in the experience of the churches in Jerusalem. The theme - "One in the apostles’ teaching, fellowship, breaking of bread and prayer" - was chosen by a group of Christian leaders from Jerusalem and is based on the book of Acts (2:42). It is a call for inspiration and renewal, a return to the essentials of the faith; it is a call to remember the time when the church was still one.

On 21 September, churches and communities throughout the world are committing to the International Day of Peace through prayer, meditation and other forms of spiritual observance. For 2010, the WCC office for the Decade to Overcome Violence (DOV) will make available prayer and liturgical resources developed in the context of this year's DOV focus on Africa.

The United Nations Advocacy Week 2010 will be focused on the Palestine-Israel conflict and the situation in Nigeria. Organized by the Commission of the Churches on International Affairs, the week includes capacity building and formation on advocacy within the UN system, theological reflection and analysis, panels and discussions on the advocacy focus areas.

Southern Africa will be the first African region to host a training and consultation on the healing of memories as part of a process that is co-sponsored by the WCC, the All Africa Conference of Churches and the Lutheran World Federation.
