Norwegian politicians balancing water for Blue October

Organizations around the world are contributing with activities to the international month of action "Blue October". In Norway, politicians took part in a race in which they had to balance containers of water on their head. The video of the event, though in Norwegian, speaks for itself. http://www1.nrk.no/nett-tv/nyheter/spill/verdi/17208

Many other events are still to take place in the course of the month. The Ecumenical Water Network (EWN) is organizing a workshop on the human right to water on October 24-25, which will deal with advocacy for the human right to water and issues such as privatization or the relation between human rights obligations and international trade agreements.

Blue October is an international month of action to challenge corporate control of water and to protect water as a shared natural resource available to all. On October 31, 2004, the people of Uruguay voted to amend their constitution to recognize this fundamental right. The Constitution now guarantees that piped water and sanitation be available to all Uruguayans, and it bans for-profit corporations from supplying this public good. Blue October celebrates this historic move by challenging corporate control of water through global action!

As Anil Naidoo from Blue Planet Project pointed out: "There are still 3 weeks remaining for your country to be represented this year and join in solidarity with the other global water mobilizations."
