ECTS-European Credit Transfer System (established 1989 by the European Commission) provides a way of measuring and comparing learning achievements and transferring them from one institution to another in order to help students make the most from their study abroad. ECTS credits are a value allocated to course units to describe the student workload required to complete them. They reflect the quantity of work each course requires in relation to the total quantity of work required to complete academic study at the institution, i.e. lectures, practical work, seminars, private work and examinations or other assessment activities. 1 ECTS credit represents 25-30 hours of students work.
