Media accreditation opens for the International Ecumenical Peace Convocation
The World Council of Churches (WCC), the Caribbean Conference of Churches (CCC) and the Jamaica Council of Churches (JCC) will host the first ever International Ecumenical Peace Convocation (IEPC) in Kingston, Jamaica, 17-25 May on the campus of the University of the West Indies at Mona.
International and local press are invited to attend this event by completing a press accreditation form and returning it to the World Council of Churches.
This unique gathering will bring together 1,000 religious leaders and peacemakers from around the world and provide a point of interest to local and international media interested in the role of the church in peacemaking at local, national and international levels.
The convocation is the culmination of the WCC programme, the Decade to Overcome Violence (DOV), which coincided with the UN International Decade for a Culture of Peace and Non-violence for the Children of the World. The theme of the ecumenical convocation is “Glory to God and Peace on Earth”. The event has four sub-themes which will be addressed through plenary sessions, worship services, workshops and seminars, all of which are open to accredited media.
The four themes are, Peace in the Community, Peace with the Earth, Peace in the Marketplace and Peace Among Peoples. The plenary sessions including the opening and closing ceremonies will be presented online through live video streaming.
A series of events of particular interest to media will also take place during the convocation, including World Peace Sunday, 22 May, the planting of Peace Trees by churches throughout Jamaica and a Peace Concert featuring the Jamaican group Fab 5 in Emancipation Park, Kingston, Friday, 20 May.
