"Churches for Water in Africa"

Mehr als 300 Millionen Menschen in Afrika südlich der Sahara haben Schätzungen zufolge keinen ausreichenden Zugang zu sauberem Wasser. Was können die Kirchen tun, um einen Beitrag zur Versorgung aller Menschen des Kontinents mit sauberem Wasser, einem grundlegenden Menschenrecht, zu leisten?
Die Konferenzteilnehmer/innen verschafften sich zunächst einen Überblick über die Wasserversorgung und den Zugang zu Wasser im ländlichen Afrika, die Folgen des Klimawandels und die Rolle wirtschaftlicher und politischer Faktoren und diskutierten davon ausgehend konkrete Gemeinschaftsinitiativen zur Wasserversorgung im Rahmen integrierter ländlicher Entwicklungsprogramme, Fragen der Gesundheitsversorgung und des Wassermanagements in vom Klimawandel betroffenen Regionen.
Aufbauend auf einem menschenrechtsbasierten Ansatz untersuchten die Teilnehmer der Konferenz mit Problemen wie der Privatisierung, Kommerzialisierung und Verschmutzung von Wasser sowie Konflikten um Wasser und andere natürliche Ressourcen. Auch theologische und biblische Workshops und der Besuch von Wasserprojekten in einem Elendsviertel in Kampala und in zwei ländlichen Diözesen standen auf dem Programm.
An der Konferenz nahmen ca. 80 Teilnehmer teil aus 19 afrikanischen Ländern und auch aus Europa und Lateinamerika. Sie wurde vom Ökumenischen Wassernetzwerk (ÖWN) gemeinsam mit dem Uganda Joint Christian Council (UJCC), der All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) und der Agency for Corporation and Research in Development (ACORD) organisiert.
